The surprise team of this year's U21 European Championship held its tournament preparation in Bad Waltersdorf.
At the start of the 2023 training camp season in Bad Waltersdorf, an exciting task awaited the IFCS and the Hotel Spa Resort Styria around General Manager Thomas Gneist. The Ukrainian U21 national team had chosen exactly this location for their European Championship preparation.
In the best June weather, the final touches were made here in 13 days before the departure to the European Championship quarter in Tbilisi. Team manager Kyrylo Kucher spoke of “excellent conditions” for a good preparation. In the two test matches against the U21 teams from Ireland (also on training camp with IFCS in Bad Radkersburg) and Kuwait, the team remained unbeaten.
The result of this preparation? A historic semi-final appearance (including the elimination of the title favourites France) in a tournament that certainly could not have come at a better time for the entire Ukrainian nation. This also meant automatic qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris!
We congratulate the team and are looking forward to their further development.
