U-19 squad starting with a victory

At the start of the elite round of the elimination finals Austria´s U-19 youngsters achieved a 3-1 victory against Slovakia.

At the start of the elite round Austria´s U-19 national squad beat Slovakia 3-1 (2-0). This victory giving Austria the first three points after the first of three elimination matches was ensured by double scorer Anel Jakupovic and Dominik Prokop.

Anel Jakupovic scored the first goal from the penalty spot after only ten minutes. And it was just one minute later when Dominik Prokop after good work from Konrad Laimer scored the second goal for Austria. Still before the break Laimer and Sandro Ingolitsch had some strong scoring opportunities to increase the score.

After change it was Middlesbrough-player Jakupovic after a pass from Philipp Malicsek to score the 3-0. Shortly afterwards he just hit the post. For the Slovaks David Hancko reduced to 3-1. In the final stage it was Albin Gashi to just hit the post.

Leaving a bitter taste: Due to an injury Philipp Malicsek could not play the whole match.
A thorough medical examination is necessary. Due to yellow-card suspensions both Xaver Schlager and Stefan Posch will not be allowed to play in the next match against Romania.

“It was a superb match of my team against an opponent we had expected so strong. Physically Slovakia has very robust and quick players, our lads have done a great job and deserved to win. It was the organizers in Rohrbach and the numerous home crowd who have made this a real festival of football for us. We took advantage of the excellent atmosphere created by this enthusiastic crowd – and we could also give them something in return”, team coach Rupert Marko said happily.
