Hertha celebrates anniversary in Styria
For the tenth time the Berliners are doing their summer preparations in Styria. This year Lazaro and Co. have been guests in Schladming since August 4 and until August 11.
In Upper Styria, the Bundesliga club gets the fine tuning for the season start on 20 August in the DFB Cup against Eintracht Braunschweig. Team manager Nello di Martino explains the reason why Hertha BSC has been coming to Styria for years: “Here in Austria we have found optimum training conditions for years, which is why we are happy to come back every year. Now we are in Schladming for the fourth time in a row, with a short interruption due to the UEFA Europa League qualifiers in 2016. Here in the region you can feel a great enthusiasm for football, which also has a positive effect on the atmosphere during the training camp. “This way we can prepare optimally for the start of the season.”
The first test match during the training camp was clearly won by the Bundesliga team. On Wednesday, August 6th, there was a 4:1 over FC Liefering. Mathew Leckie scored twice (9th, 33rd), but Florian Baak scored a second goal (60th). An own goal in minute 81 sealed the clear victory for the Bundesliga team, in which ten new players came to the break, only keeper Rune Jarstein played through.
On Friday, August 10th, another trial gallop against Aiginiakos FC will take place at 6 pm.
For international player Lazaro, the training camp is a return to his homeland, the 22-year-old is Styrian: “Of course it’s always nice to come home. Not only me, but the whole team was warmly welcomed here. I like being in my home country and also enjoy my stay here in Styria during the training camp – even if a training camp is always very intensive and means a lot of work, it is great to get fit here under the best conditions to be able to really accelerate in the coming season”.
